Hawks Hit, Pitch Way to Third-Straight Win

MORGANTOWN – Pitching and hitting like this will win a lot of baseball games.

On Tuesday, the University Hawks pounded out 11 hits while Zach Harman and Avante Neal tossed a four-hit shutout on their way to a 15-0 victory over visiting Linsly.

UHS (9-6), winners of its last three, scored four runs in the first, one in the second, nine in the third and one in the fourth while Harman and Neal went to work on the mound. Harman (2-0) scattered four hits with two strikeouts in three innings while Neal tossed the final two innings with just one hit allowed.

Offensively, the Hawks were paced by Noah Braham and Casey Smith. Braham went 3-for-3 with a double and four RBI while Smith was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI. Cam Musgrave added two singles with two RBI while Drew Herter had a single with two RBI.

Also contributing to the UHS offense was Park Croyle who went 1-for-3 with an RBI while Tony Marsh added one RBI and Jackson Oleska added a single.

The Hawks return to action on Wednesday when they host Bridgeport at 5 p.m.


JV Hawks Lose Pitcher’s Duel

MORGANTOWN – The UHS JV Baseball team dropped a tough, 2-1, pitcher’s duel to Linsly at the Lower Turf Field on Tuesday.

University (9-4) managed just four hits in the contest as Jarrett Walters and Brodee Latocha each had two singles. The Hawks trailed 2-0 after five innings before scratching across a run in the sixth but they could not tie the game in the seventh.

Chase George was the hard-luck loser on the mound for UHS as he pitched six innings of four-hit baseball with four strikeouts. Cody Thomas pitched the final inning with two strikeouts.

The young Hawks return to action on Wednesday when they host Bridgeport.
