Hawks Slug Way to Victory
MASONTOWN, Pa. – An offensive outburst pushed the UHS baseball team to an 11-5 victory over host Albert-Gallatin on Monday.
The Hawks (8-6), winners of two straight, collected 16 hits with nine RBI in the contest. After trailing 2-0 after one inning, UHS scored five runs in the second, four runs in the third, one in the fourth and five in the fifth on its way to the victory.
Noah Braham led the offense with a 3-for-5 performance that included a home run and three RBI, Casey Smith added three hits with two doubles and two RBI while Chase Edwards had two singles with three RBI.
Edwards (1-0) started on the mound for University and finished with three strikeouts in five innings of work. Tony Marsh pitched the next four outs with two strikeouts while Casey Smith struck out two for the final two outs of the contest.
Evan Smith also collected three hits for UHS with a double while Park Croyle had a pair of singles. Avante Neal had a single with one RBI while Cam Musgrave added a single.
UHS returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Linsly for a 5 p.m. OVAC contest.
JV Hawks Shutout Bruins
MORGANTOWN – Four UHS pitchers combined to toss a four-hit shutout against visiting Brooke on Monday in a junior varsity contest.
The Hawks (9-3) won the game 9-0 as Tyler Furbee pitched the first 11 outs to pick up the victory before giving way to Cody Thomas, Chase George and Brodee Latocha.
University’s offense was led by Jarrett Walter who had two doubles with three RBI while Josh Smolkin, and Jake Croston each had two singles. Brock McDonough, Furbee and Thomas each had one hit with Thomas picking up a pair of RBI while Furbee and Jordan Smolkin had one RBI.
The team returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Linsly.
