University Hawks vs. Bridgeport Indians
Tuesday, May 11, 2021 - 4:30pm - Bridgeport HS - Bridgeport, WV
Hawks Drop Third Straight
BRIDGEPORT – A four-run sixth inning powered Bridgeport past the UHS baseball team on Tuesday.
The Hawks (6-5) grabbed a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning when Noah Braham reached base on a fielder’s choice that scored Chase Edwards and then Aaron Forbes hit a line-drive double to right field that scored Avante Neal.
However, that lead was short lived as the Indians scored four runs and then held on to send University to its third straight loss.
Forbes led the UHS offense with two hits and two RBI while Braham, Casey Smith, and Edwards each had one hit.
Smith (2-2) was the hard-luck loser on the mound for UHS as he was dominant on the mound with three perfect innings to start the contest. He struck out seven and surrendered just five hits in the contest with no walks.
University returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts cross-town rival Morgantown for a 5 p.m. contest.
Offense Fizzles for JV Hawks
BRIDGEPORT – One hit and one run was all that the UHS junior varsity baseball team could muster on Tuesday.
That was not enough as it dropped a 4-1 decision to host Bridgeport. The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the young Hawks (5-2).
Jake Croston had the only hit for UHS and scored the only run.
Jordan Smolkin took the loss on the mound for University as he pitched four innings while allowing just two hits and striking out nine. Jarrett Walters and Cody Thomas finished the contest on the mound. Thomas struck out three in his one and one-third innings of work.
The young Hawks return to action on Wednesday when they host Morgantown at 5 p.m.
