Mohigans Shut Out, Shut Down Hawks
MORGANTOWN – Two hits is all the University baseball team could muster on Thursday night.
This time, that wasn’t enough.
One night after an astonishing comeback against Buckhannon-Upshur - in which the Hawks (10-17) mustered only two hits in a victory - their good fortune did not continue in a 4-0 loss to Morgantown.
The loss ends the season for UHS while Morgantown picks up the Class AAA sectional title and moves on to regional play.
The Mohigans scored one run in the first inning and three in the third inning in a contest that featured a pitching duel. UHS struck out 12 times in the contest and committed four errors against the No. 3 ranked team in the state.
Evan Smith took the loss on the mound for UHS as he allowed four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. Clay Maholic and Casey Smith each had one hit for University.
