Offense Goes Quiet In Hawks’ Latest Loss
MORGANTOWN – Senior pitcher Perry Lillard allowed just three earned runs on Friday, but the University offense didn’t show up.
The Hawks (7-15) dropped a 7-1 decision to George Washington in a game that was played at the Mon County Ballpark as part of the Mon County Ballpark Classic.
Lillard was able to work out of any big innings but GW did manage to plate runs in five of the seven innings. He allowed six runs on 11 hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Evan Smith pitched the final inning and allowed one run on three hits with one strikeout.
University’s only run scored in the fourth inning when Kevin Smith scored on a single to left field by Casey Smith to cut the deficit to 4-1. However, the UHS offense couldn’t muster anything else as it finished with just five hits in the contest.
Clay Maholic led the Hawks with two hits including a double, Matt Renner had a single while Jake Spearen also added a single in the contest.
University returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Brooke for a 5 p.m. game.
