Hawks Drop Sixth Straight

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – University couldn’t muster enough offense on Wednesday night in a 7-2 loss to Myrtle Beach High School.

The loss for the Hawks (5-12) is their sixth straight and second in the Mingo Bay Classic held in Myrtle Beach, SC.

There were some bright spots for UHS though as they grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Clay Maholic hit a single to left field that scored Avante Neal. Unfortunately, UHS surrendered the lead in the bottom of the third when the Seahawks scored four runs and that would be as close as the Hawks would come.

UHS did manage to score another run in the sixth inning when Hunter Cottrell scored on a passed ball.

Senior Perry Lillard took the loss on the mound but was solid, once again, as he pitched five innings with seven runs allowed on seven hits with six strikeouts. Jonathan Thompson pitched the final inning for UHS with no hits and no runs allowed.

No UHS player had more than one hit with Maholic, Cottrell, Neal and Lillard each collecting a single.

The Hawks try to get back on the winning side Wednesday afternoon when they play their third game of tournament pool play against Battlefield, Va. The game, at Myrtle Beach High School, will begin at 12:30 p.m.
