Hawks Struggle On Offense, Defense In Latest Loss

WHEELING – No offense and rough defense made for a bad recipe on Wednesday for the University baseball team.

UHS (5-9) mustered just three hits and committed five errors in an 8-0 loss to Wheeling Park.

The poor defense spoiled a good start on the mound from senior Perry Lillard who was the tough-luck loser as he scattered seven hits over five innings of work with six runs allowed but none of those runs were earned. Lillard also had three strikeouts and walked three. Kevin Smith pitched the final inning for the Hawks.

Hunter Cottrell, Cameron Musgrave and Evan Smith each had one hit to pace the offense.

University, losers of three straight, returns to action on Thursday when it travels to face cross-town rival Morgantown at 5 p.m.
