Hawks’ Bats Go Silent In Latest Loss

PARKERSBURG – University managed just four hits on Monday as it dropped an 11-1 contest to host Parkersburg South.

The Hawks’ (5-7) lone run came in the top of the fifth inning when Jake Spearen scored on a sacrifice fly to center field by Hunter Cottrell. It was also Cottrell who had the only extra-base hit with a double in the contest while Casey Smith, Kevin Smith and Spearen each had singles.

Max Kitzmiller took the loss on the mound as he scattered seven hits in three and one-third innings of work with six runs allowed, four earned, and three walks.

Spearen pitched the final inning and a third in the mercy-rule shortened contest. Spearen surrendered five runs on four hits with only two of those runs being earned.

University committed three errors in the contest that led to five unearned runs.

UHS tries to get back on the winning side of things on Tuesday when it hosts Linsly at 5 p.m.
