Wheeling Park Shuts Out University

The Hawks (4-6) mustered just three hits in the contest with freshman Aaron Forbes collecting two of those hits. Forbes went 2-for-3 with a double and a single in the contest while sophomore Casey Smith added a single.

Evan Smith took the loss on the mound as he was tagged for 10 hits in four and two thirds of work with five runs, four of them earned, three walks and five strikeouts. Jonathan Thompson added one and two thirds of work while Jake Spearen added two thirds of an inning with two strikeouts.

University also committed two errors in the field and only mustered three walks with 10 strikeouts.

The Hawks return to action on Friday when they host Brooke at 5 p.m.

Errors Haunt JV Hawks In Latest Loss

MORGANTOWN – It was a familiar foe that did in the UHS JV baseball team on Thursday, and it wasn’t visiting Wheeling Park.

No, it was the Hawks defense.

University (2-7) committed seven errors in a 15-1 loss and mustered just two hits. Tony Marsh and Seth Coombs were the only UHS players to collect base hits in the game.

Drew Herter (0-2) suffered the loss on the mound as he surrendered eight runs, two of them earned, with six hits, four walks and two strikeouts. Isaiah Clevenger pitched the final three and one-third innings with eight hits surrendered and two strikeouts.

UHS returns to action on Friday when it hosts Brooke at 5 p.m.
