Cottrell Slugs UHS To Victory

KINGWOOD – Senior catcher Hunter Cottrell collected seven RBIs as he helped University beat Preston 20-0 on Wednesday.

Cottrell opened the scoring with a two-run triple in the first inning, added an RBI double in the second, an RBI double in the third and a three-run triple in the fourth as he accounted for nearly half of the Hawks (4-5) runs in the contest.

Sophomore Casey Smith (1-0) picked up the complete-game shutout on the mound. He scattered four hits, walked two and struck out eight for the victory.

The Hawks shook off a two-game losing streak with the win as they slugged 16 hits in the contest. Sophomore Cameron Musgrave had two doubles and finished the night going 3-for-4 with one RBI. Evan Smith went 2-for-3 with two RBIs including a double and freshman Aaron Forbes went 1-for-4 with an RBI double.

Casey Smith added a 2-for-3 performance at the plate with an RBI to go along with his stellar pitching performance. Senior Jordan Dentjen slugged a three-run home run in the while Avante Neal, Kevin Smith and Jake Spearen each had singles with Spearen and Neal each picking up one RBI.

The Hawks return to action on Wednesday when they host Wheeling Park at 5 p.m.
