UHS Falls Short Against B-U

MORGANTOWN – A late rally by the University High School varsity baseball team fell short on Monday as it dropped a 7-6 contest to Buckhannon-Upshur.

The Hawks (0-1) rallied twice in the contest as they scored three runs in the third to take a 3-1 thanks to Jacob Spearen scoring on a passed ball, Cameron Musgrave driving home Casey Smith and Clay Maholic scoring on a wild pitch.

UHS held the lead until the fifth inning when B-U scored two runs to grab a 4-3 advantage, but UHS rallied back to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth when Musgrave reached on an error and Hunter Cottrell scored.

Kevin Smith smacked a single to center field that scored Cottrell, and then Matt Renner scored on a fielder’s choice by Spearen. The Hawks had the bases loaded with two outs when Evan Smith scorched a line drive that the left fielder made a diving play on to end the game.
